Most Recent Guidelines (Fall, 2002)

Here are the guidelines for Web405 posters:

1. Text mail only. ASCII. No HTML mail. No colors, fonts, pictures, borders, backgrounds, etc.

2. No attachments. This means VCF cards, etc.

3. Messages not directly concerned with working the web =must= have [OT], for Off Topic, inserted in the subject line. A post about part-time phone sales openings, for example, would be considered [OT].

This does NOT mean you must post all the time about web stuff. It does mean people who are reading the list strictly for work will be able to filter messages appropriately.

You can make as many off-topic posts as you want. However, before posting, you must send the list a relevant non-OT post - a tip, an URL, a question, an observation, a rant, whatever - just as long as it is relevant to working on/with the Web.

4. No cross-posting. Take the time to send separate messages, please. Since people often "reply all," I end up having to deal with endless bounce messages from people trying to respond to Web405 when they really saw the message on another list.

5. Please be courteous and eliminate extra headers, footers and text when replying to and forwarding email. Also: it is lame and boring to quote an entire message with your sole addition being "LOL" or something similar.

6. No public archiving of Web405 messages.

7. If you set up your email client to autorespond with a VACATION message, I will personally remove you from the list. It's bad enough I have robots calling me at home. We don't need robots spamming Web405. Remember, you must post from the email address you used to subscribe, otherwise your message will be rejected as spam.

8. NEW. Outsourced enforcement of these guidelines is handled by the fine folks at http://www.ouchytheclown.com, for when you need, well, whatever that is.

Thanks, people. Love you all!
